As the dust settles down on EcoTrail Wicklow 2024, we’ve drilled down some of the figures of the event, which saw the largest numbers of entries of the five editions. There were 1495 entries that had booked for this year’s event which is 11% up from last years (1343). See below some figures on the event.
Gender:
This year saw Latvian Power couple take the 80k win with Andris Ronimoiss arriving first in 6h47mn and girlfriend Anete Svilpe arriving second overall and first female in 7h16mn.
Overall, there were 69% male competing against 31% female. The ratio varies according to the distance where there were actually more females running the 10k race with 51%. The 19k race sees the balance starting to shift with 58% male and 42% female. All the other races see male dominating entries with only 11% female competing in the 80k race.
Nationalities:
64 nationalities were represented at EcoTrail Wicklow 2024: This is a big increase from 47 nationalities last year and the proportion of Irish was stable – 71% last year versus 72% this year. French and British followed by Americans were the most prominent last year too. Note the fantastic work from the Trail Criú Club that increased the number of nationalities this year.
People travelled from 22 countries to the event with 12% of participants (182) came from abroad to EcoTrail Wicklow. Unsurprisingly GB and France where the top nations travelling both years while we had a lot of Germans last year and they were less represented this time. The longer distances had greater proportions of foreign runners relative to the total field size.
The Irish:
Runners from Dublin (43%) and Wicklow (19%) made up the largest number of Irish participants. But there were participants from all 32 Counties. The top ten counties with most representation are as follow: Dublin (641), Wicklow (278), Kildare (71), Meath (51), Wexford (43), Cork (39), Louth (26), Antrim (21), Galway (18), Waterford (14).
The Age:
The average age for EcoTrail Wicklow was 40 ranging from 17 (who ran the 10k) to 73 (who ran the 19k). There were five participants over 70 years old (all men): two ran the 46k, 1 the 30k and 2 the 19k.
