Ecotrail Wicklow partners with Trail des Maures (France)

Ireland’s trail running community continues to attract global attention, and we’re thrilled to announce a new partnership that’s set to bring even more excitement to the scene. EcoTrail Wicklow has teamed up with the legendary Trail des Maures, an iconic race in the South of France. This collaboration not only celebrates the shared passion for trails between two nations but also invites runners to embrace the unique landscapes and challenges of both Ireland and France.

The Massif des Maures is a trail runner’s paradise, offering rugged paths, technical climbs, and stunning Mediterranean vistas.

A Growing French Presence at EcoTrail Wicklow

Since its inception in 2019, EcoTrail Wicklow has welcomed an increasing number of French runners. That first edition saw a massive 143 French participants, and last year, 2024, we welcomed 80 runners. It’s clear that Ireland’s rugged trails and warm welcome are resonating with our French friends.

In October, EcoTrail Wicklow made its presence felt at the renowned Festival des Templiers in France. The interest was palpable, with many French runners expressing curiosity about Ireland’s trail-running culture. And why wouldn’t they? Our wild landscapes, varied terrain, and community spirit are a perfect match for those eager to explore trails beyond the Hexagon. As one French runner put it, “The appetite has been whetted, and now we’re thirsty for more Irish adventures!”

Why Trail des Maures is Special ?

Trail des Maures, based in the stunning Massif des Maures, offers something for everyone. With distances ranging from 12km to 100km, this race caters to runners of all abilities while showcasing breathtaking scenery. Picture yourself running past Notre Dame des Anges, the Col de Babaou, and the Plateau des Lamberts, with its ancient menhirs and wild, untamed beauty.

For those seeking a challenge, this year introduces the “Week-end Bloc”: a two-day event (May 10–11, 2025) where runners can tackle two races and rack up serious kilometres and elevation. It’s perfect for ultra runners or anyone eager to push their limits.

Trail des Maures is no stranger to accolades. Recognized by Esprit Trail magazine as one of the most beautiful trails in France, it stands out among thousands of races for its rich history, excellent organisation, and awe-inspiring routes. With 2,000 participants expected this year, the event promises unforgettable memories and an electric atmosphere.

Conquer the rugged rocky ridges of the Massif des Maures—where every step comes with a view and every climb tests your grit.

A Cultural Exchange on the Trails

This partnership between EcoTrail Wicklow and Trail des Maures is more than just a connection between two events—it’s an opportunity to bring two vibrant trail-running communities closer together. Irish runners now have the perfect excuse to pack their trail shoes and head to the South of France in May, while French runners can continue their exploration of Ireland’s rugged beauty at EcoTrail Wicklow.

With only 100 days to go until Trail des Maures kicks off, there’s still time to sign up and be part of this incredible experience. And if you can’t make it to France, you can still tune in to TV8 Mont-Blanc for three hours of live coverage that will capture all the action.

Whether it’s Ireland’s windswept coastlines or the sun-drenched trails of the Var, this partnership celebrates the joy of running, the camaraderie of the trail-running community, and the adventure that awaits around every corner.
